Art Brûlant
&
IMPRESSIONS
Well we have added on! Art
Brûlant is official!
Sneezy Waters (aka Peter Hodgson) helped us celebrate
the Grand Opening on Friday May 6th. On Saturday the
7th an exhibition of work by various artists inaugurated the
new wall space with a great selection pieces. As part of the weekend free
coffees was the norm. An offering from the coffees roasted and carried in
house. In the week following a number of extra special coffees were highlighted.
I want you to be able sit and enjoy the art on the walls in a relaxed manner. Art
and coffee fresh roasted, ground and brewed go well together. Come in and
enjoy!
We still carry a good supply of artists' materials and the
basement still houses UIS (Underground IMPRESSIONS
Souterrain). The printmaking studio.
Souterrain). L'atelier de l"estampe.
History
Over twenty years ago I set up my studio upon moving onto a rural property in
the north of the municipality of Bristol, Québec. The original studio was in an old
shed. That studio has gone through a number of stages and is now in the
basement of our house.
One hour's bicycle ride from home is the village of Shawville, Québec. When the
opportunity arose in the summer of 2004 I inaugurated the Shawville annex of
my home studio. Like my regular studio which is situated in the basement of my
home, the new annex was also in the basement at 317 Main St . Shawville. With
this Underground IMPRESSIONS Souterraines (UIS) was born -- at home and
in Shawville.
For 2004 and 2005 I only operated UIS in Shawville during the summer months.
2006 marked a new development and experiment in the evolution of UIS. With
the encouraging results of 2004, 2005, I decided to try opening UIS (the
Shawville annex) year round.
The Present
In November of 2007 UIS closed at 317 Main, Shawville. On May 1st, 2008 at
305-F Main, Shawville I opened the doors of IMPRESSIONS.
Impressions is "A place for Art" with room for more.
- A well lit ground level gallery exhibits work from regional artists and more
- Workshop space is available for those wishing to learn and those wishing to
teach
- The corner for artist's supplies carries a good selection of quality materials --
with more coming in all the time
- My own studio UIS is also housed here - and still in the basement!
Goals.....!?
My goals for Impressions have expanded to be more inclusive in regards to
the visual arts. "A Place for Art" means that Impressions is a place
- to see & appreciate art
- to learn about art
- to learn to do art
- to care for art
- to acquire the materials to practice art
